Famous for 15 minutes - Andy Warhol said everyone would get their 15 minutes of fame - but for what?
Some people are famous for being famous. Outrageous behaviour outshines any achievements they may have made but is it right and proper that they get the adoration and adulation of the public eye?
People who are famous for wrecking their own burgeoning career by their stupidity, people who piggy-back someone's career in the hope that they can ride as long as possible and then leap-frog past. Or someone who cheats completely - someone who says they're the one who did all the work and allows their fame to take them further using other people's skill and talent?
I'm not naming names, I have my opinions on it, I'm sure you do too.
On the other side of that coin:
What happens when someone deserves recognition for their achievements but their name isn't plastered all over the headlines? That's not 'natural justice' is it?
Well, it would seem that a newspaper here in the UK is trying to redress that balance a little. The Guardian has a series on self-published authors and are asking for recommendations to be featured.
